On the 27th of June, the MDUK Oxford Neuromusuclar Centre Town and Gown Team once again embarked on the beautiful 10km course around Oxford city centre in MDUK’s first socially distanced run.

The Oxford Town and Gown 10km challenge is an annual fundraising event run by the MDUK charity. The course traverses Oxford's picturesque alleyways and iconic buildings, and provides the unique opportunity to run on the road down the High Street! Following the cancellation of the event in 2020, due to COVID restrictions, the charity suffered a vital blow to its fundraising efforts. We were therefore delighted that it went ahead this year, and that Oxford was the first ‘COVID safe’ running event hosted by MDUK, following the relaxation of restrictions. MDUK ONMC supported the event with 16 runners completing the course, and a Team of volunteers helping on the day. The event drew the attention of the media, and sparked BBC Oxford interviews with MDUK ONMC Director, Prof. Matthew Wood, and MDUK ONMC runner, Dr Corinne Betts.

Alongside MDUK’s Oxford Town and Gown 10km challenge, the MDUK ONMC also hosted some fabulous fundraising events including a kiddies cooking class with ‘Mrs Bun the Baker’, a relaxing yoga session with Kasia Chwalenia, a 'bake-a-long' with Rachel's apron and a raffle. Together we smashed our fundraising record and have raised a phenomenal £1001 for MDUK.

A big thank you to the wonderful Town and Gown volunteers who gave up their time and the supporters for coming out to cheer for us and sponsor our events. A big thank you also to the sponsors of our raffle: ELIS Cleanroom, Partyman World, BMG, Promega and Waitrose.
