Myopathies are a group of neuromuscular disorders which cause primarily muscle weakness due to muscle fibre dysfunction but also muscule cramps, stiffness and spasm.  Examples of myopathies include: congenital myopathies, muscular dystrophies (for more information, see Muscular Dystrophies tab), mitochondrial dystrophies and myopathies (for more information, see Mitochondrial Diseases tab), glycogen storage disease of muscle, myoglobinurias, dermatomyositis, myositis ossificans, familial periodic paralysis and neuromyotonia.
